I couldn't sleep last night so I did laundry at 1 a.m. and watched a rerun of a Chris Titus Valentine special called "Love is Evol." Is it just me, or is Titus getting more handsome as he gets older? I love his jawline. Too bad he's so bitter about everything. Otherwise, you know, we'd have a chance.

I have rolling beliefs in the area of love, as in religion. Sometimes I'm a complete love atheist, like I am now. Romantic love is stupid. There's no such thing. Anybody who does anything for romantic love is a frickin' idiot. It's fleeting, a shadow, a hormonal imbalance.

Perhaps I feel this way because (aside from my own life being completely devoid of any romance, a state which will likely never end, I realized yesterday) I watched The Other Boleyn Girl last night. The acting was fan-freakin-tastic, the costumes were beautiful, Eric Bana was a h-h-hot Henry VIII (but increasingly pathetic and unstable through the movie). The storyline took a lot of license with the Boleyn's circumstances, but one thing is true: Henry VIII ruled his country based on his romantic whims. Mary Boleyn "loved" Henry, and what did it get her? Heartache.

See? It's stupid.

I wish I could balance it better. Love with reality, physical needs with intellectual ones. I was about to say physical needs with emotional needs, but emotional needs are physical. It's just a hormonal imbalance.

  2. I love Titus. But is this seriously all you have to say about this post? It has insomnia and the futility of love, two of your favorite topics!

  3. I'm not much good with history -- or gravatars, apparently -- but Fal really enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl. It wasn't half bad.

As for romantic love ... well, I'm going to stay silent there. ;)

  4. Yep, I did like The Other Boleyn Girl. :)

I've never heard of this Chris Titus guy though.

I'm sorry about your life being devoid of romance, and also about whatever it was that happened yesterday to convince you that that state was going to last the rest of your life.

You know my position on love - that it's not an emotion - but I know you're looking for that chocolates and flowers thing, that "wooing" that takes place with candlelight dinners and sheer lingerie. Want me to send a certain someone a wake-up letter?

  5. God, no. And it's not even that I'm craving "wooing." I just think love causes more problems than it's worth, that's all. It's stupid. It makes US stupid. And for some reason, we hold that state of being above all others. Whatev.

Thanks for the offer, though. :) Love ya.

  6. And I love you too - I hope that's not a problem! ;)

Actually, I think it's the lust stuff that causes all the problems, more than love. I believe real love seeks to solve problems, not cause them.

  7. My mother warned me to learn the difference between lust and love. No easy task.

  8. See, I never got that talk. I grew up seeing how between a man and a woman, lust and love are one and the same. I may never shake it.

Real love seeks to solve problems...true, but if only one person is in love, that causes problems, doesn't it? Real love is not always mutual, and therein lies one of its downfalls. It must be reciprocated to have a positive impact.

  9. Yeah, it's best when it's mutual, I concur.

  10. Since I wrote this post, I decided that just because it's a physical thing doesn't make it any less important or real. Doesn't make it suck less when you don't have it, either.

Beautiful photo gallery, by the way.
